When to go โ€” and what to expect in each country

Bottom line: November is the one month that works for everything. Southeast Asia is in dry season, and Seoul is cold but bright and clear. September is monsoon season in northern Vietnam and should be avoided. December is even drier in the south โ€” but it pushes Seoul below freezing, so if you are doing Option C, do not slide the trip later. Mid-November is the sweet spot.

Packing List

Essentials for 2 weeks in Southeast Asia โ€” hot, humid, and sometimes rainy

Option C packs for two climates. Seoul in mid-November runs 4โ€“13ยฐC; Hanoi and Siem Reap run 24โ€“31ยฐC. Do not buy a bulky winter coat โ€” a packable down jacket over a merino base layer handles Seoul fine and crushes down to nothing. Everything cold goes into one compression cube on day 5 and stays there. The other three options need none of this.
